When reading this essay again, I really focused on the part about the children being compared to an orchid and a dandelion. I kind of just brushed over this the first time I read, but this time it really stuck out to me. I find it amazing how they compared children who were brought up differently with flowers, it helps people to understand children a lot more though.

I also focused on the part about “pseudo-mistakes” because this interested me a lot. It helped me understand how metaphors are made. These pseudo-mistakes can either flop, or do amazingly, but it is the first step to writing a strong metaphor. I also really enjoyed how he mentioned how you can purposely miscategorise something you’re trying to explain, and with that you can come up with a great metaphor that people will understand. I didn’t quite know what pseudo meant so I looked up the definition and found out its something “pretend” or “having the appearance of” which made me understand everything so much better.

I think reading this essay a second time really understand how a metaphor is made and you have to go through trial and error to get a good one. When I am writing my own essay, I will definitely come back to this essay. I know it will help me with writing about metaphors and how to write my own!
